The centerpiece of this set is a whorled poplar burl veneer that has been stained spring green and aqua, bordered with sunny orange-stained mahogany; this beautiful veneer makes up the majority of the outside of the set, and covers almost all of the playing surface. The whorls of burl catch and scatter the light through twisty grain, which creates ripples of sparkle whenever you move your head or the set. On the lid, mahogany also catches the light in its straight grain, and decorative braids of slivers of inlaid mahogany and hardwood also catch the light, contrasting glittering straight lines against whirling poplar burl.

The set is 1/4 inch thick at its thinnest and almost an inch at its thickest, and weighs just over 8 pounds.
